“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
— James 4:8a (ESV)
Sometimes we think spending time with God requires the perfect setting: an open Bible, highlighters, hot coffee, soft instrumental music, and an uninterrupted hour. But as nice as that sounds, it is not the only way to spend time with Him. The reality is that if we wait for the “perfect moment” to seek God, it may never come.
Real life does not always go according to plan. There are busy days, tasks that seem endless, and moments when we simply do not have the mental energy for anything else. But that does not mean God is far away or that we have to cancel our time with Him. Spending time with God can be as simple as taking a walk while listening to the Bible. It can be an honest conversation with Him while you cook, clean the house, exercise, or drive to work. It can be reading a verse and thinking about it while you take care of something else. You do not need a special chair or a lit candle for God to hear you.
Do you know what I find beautiful about this? God is not waiting for your perfection; He is waiting for your presence. He wants to walk with you through the ordinary parts of life and also meet you in your most personal moments. And sometimes, when you invite Him into an ordinary day, He gives you those special, longer moments with Him that you had been longing for.
Do not let waiting for everything to be perfect rob you of the wonderful gift of fellowship with God. Invite God into your everyday life, and you may soon discover that His presence can turn any moment into something sacred.
What if today you simply started with, “Lord, here I am”? Sometimes that is all it takes to draw near to Him and realize that He was with you all along.
