Sometimes we think that spending time with God requires the perfect setting: an open Bible, colorful highlighters, hot coffee, instrumental music, and an uninterrupted hour. However, that idea, as lovely as it is, is not the only way to spend time with Him. The reality is that if we wait for the “ideal moment” to seek God, it may never come.
Real life does not always go according to our plans: there are busy days, tasks that seem never-ending, or moments when we simply do not have the mental energy for anything else. Even so, that does not mean God is far away or that we should give up spending time with Him. Spending time with God can be as simple as going for a walk while listening to the Bible. It can be a sincere conversation with Him while you cook, clean the house, exercise, or drive to work. It can be reading a verse and meditating on it while doing a task. You do not need a special chair or a lit candle for God to hear you.
Do you know what is most beautiful? God is not waiting for your perfection; He is waiting for your presence. He wants to walk with you in the ordinary moments and also meet with you in the most intimate ones. What is surprising is that when you invite Him into your everyday life, He often gives you those special, longer moments you have been longing for.
Do not let waiting for perfection rob you of the wonderful gift of having fellowship with God. Invite God into your everyday life, and you will soon discover that His presence transforms any moment into something sacred.
What if today you simply started with, “Lord, here I am”? Sometimes, that is all you need to draw near to Him… and feel that He had been with you all along.
