Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
James 4:8a (ESV)

Sometimes we think spending time with God requires the perfect setting: an open Bible, a warm cup of coffee, soft instrumental music, and an uninterrupted hour. But while that picture is lovely, it’s not the only way to meet with Him.

The truth is, if we wait for the “perfect moment” to seek God, it may never come. Real life doesn’t always go according to our plans. Some days are hectic, full of endless tasks, or we’re simply too mentally drained. But that doesn’t mean God is far, or that our time with Him needs to be canceled.

Time with God can be as simple as a walk while listening to the Bible. It can be an honest conversation with Him while cooking, cleaning the house, exercising or driving to work. It can be reading a verse and meditating on it while doing a task. You don’t need a special chair or a lit candle for God to hear you.

You know what’s most beautiful? God isn’t waiting for your perfection; He’s waiting for your presence. He wants to walk with you in the ordinary and also meet you in the deep. And what’s amazing is that when you invite Him into your regular day, He often gifts you those long, peaceful moments you’ve been longing for.

Don’t let the wait for perfection steal what’s possible. Invite God into your everyday life, and you’ll soon discover that His presence makes any moment sacred.

What if today you simply started with, “Lord, I’m here”? Sometimes, that’s all it takes to draw near to Him… and realize He was with you all along.
